Without fail I approach spring and summer with trepidation. I will be honest and ever since I became involved in animal welfare, “kitten season” was never a time of the year I looked forward to. February has become my favorite month. Unfortunately, we do have “kitten season”.  Some parts of the country have it longer than others. The summer is when we get lost to rescue vs the focused high volume spay/neuter efforts that we need to have in place to be able to reduce the community cat populations. Here is a link to my first blog post about the pyramid.

Strategy is so important during the summer to stay the course and continue to provide access to as much spay/neuter as possible in your community. When I was involved in the day to running of an organization I would use the components of the Community Cat Pyramid to keep me “grounded” in a strategic direction. In the summer please continue to focus on the base of the pyramid helping support the community and their cats/kittens.  Don’t lose your way.

Kristen, our technical cat, and I have updated the Community Cat Pyramid page with some new resources. Please take a look at this page and download the flyers (in English and Spanish) that you can add your logo to. Post it in your community and use it as a tool to help explain your strategy for reducing cat populations!

We are on it...

Thanks for testing out the Community Cat Calculator. It appears that your zip code may fall in more than one county. If you would like details about the methodology used, please click here to download a handy information sheet and then you can calculate the numbers on your own.
