Why Adopting Two Kitties Is Better Than One

Happy day before Valentine’s Day! I hope you and your loved ones have a good day filled with Chocolate and Catnip. When we think about Valentine’s Day we think about couples. Today I would like to list some of the many reason why adopting two cats or kittens are better than just adopting one.

Make It A Double! Why Adopting Two Kitties Is Better Than One

1. We are a culture of indoor only cats now. So many cats are home alone for 8-10 hours while we are at work. Cats need companionship and stimulation just like people do and while it is safer for cats to be inside it really isn’t a whole lot of fun. By adding a new friend or bringing in two cats together, your cats will have companionship and stimulation if you want it. If you have more than two cats, I like keeping to even numbers until you get above 6 cats or so and then it really doesn’t matter.

2. Two cats are more active. If you have one cat, that cat will tend to be a lot less active during the day.  Two cats will play and chase each other around. This will help keep their weight at a better level.  Obesity is a major issue for cats too.

3. It is also great if you can adopt a more social cat and a cat that is more shy. That seems to be a nice combination so you won’t have to worry about dominant personalities.

4. Make it two shy cats! By a adopting a shy cat you are helping a cat that might otherwise be overlooked at a shelter. Some people also don’t want cats that are going to be “all over them”. Shy cats are great companions from afar. I personally prefer them! I liked having quieter cats in my house when I had small children, as I knew that they wouldn’t want to be in the personal space of my children so I could rest easy.

5. If you adopt two kittens, they will play with each other and be less likely to get in trouble and mess with your stuff. Kittens can be pretty crazy so you really do want to make sure that they have lots of entertainment!
