Interview! Kate Benjamin, Designer, Blogger of Hauspanther, Part 2
July 29, 2017Interview! Nathan Winograd, Executive Director, The No-Kill Advocacy Center, Part 1
August 5, 2017It has been about a year since I have covered this topic and I have to say that I still have a love-hate relationship with Social Media. Below is a listing of my five points about social media that I think we all need to think about and how I feel about My Love-Hate Relationship with Social Media – Part 2.
1. Getting Into the Facebook Feed is a Challenge
It used to be you could post some cute pictures of kittens and stories and the word would spread around like wildfire. That isn’t always the case anymore. People can’t keep up with everything and Facebook really supports organizations and people that are putting money into ads to help get you into feeds. I think the new wild west in Facebook is the ChatBot in Messenger. Messenger is becoming the filter of your Facebook page where you can see what you really want to see. So I think we will begin posting less and encouraging more interacting with messenger which is a whole new world and new area to learn…. Who has time?!
2. It about the Video Man (or Woman)!
Video on Facebook and Instagram is important. We are no longer a static society. We are a society of story-telling and the easiest way to do is through video. The younger we are the shorter we want the video. I would be interested to know if anyone is using SnapChat. I am predicting it will be the next company to go down the tubes, like Periscope (remember that?). What do you think about video? How do you use video, Facebook Live, YouTube and other options?
3. Social Media is Still a Time Drain
I still get lost in the quagmire of the social media abyss. I try to limit my social media access to no more than an hour a day, which includes scheduling posts etc. But it is just so easy to take a peak and then before you know I 30 minutes has gone by.
4. Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn, hmmm…
These platforms still baffle me to a certain degree. I guess Twitter is good to connect with the press, Pinterest for the DIY crowd and then LinkedIn for professionals, but I am not inclined to spend a lot of time on these platforms.
5. Social Media, Marketing and Public Relations
Creating a predicable strategy around these areas is just a mystery to me and continues to be one. I guess I just need to fall back on Michael Hyatt’s recommendation from his book, Platform, and just try and focus, focus, focus and not be overwhelmed by all of these components.
Have a great week and next week we are going to have some awesome news to share with everyone!
