This week’s guest post comes to us from Liz Pease, former Executive Director of the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, who was featured on CCP Episode #51.

This past week, fellow CCP staff member Kristen and I (Liz Pease) were lucky enough to see Hannah Shaw (better known as Kitten Lady) on the Boston stop of the launch tour for her new book Tiny but Mighty. Held at the Wilbur Theater, the evening included Hannah answering audience questions and reading an excerpt from her new book about Badger, a kitten you’ll learn more about in an upcoming CCP podcast with Preston Tobery, a good friend of Hannah’s. (Hannah herself was interviewed on CCP several years ago on Episodes85 and 86.)

Tiny but Mighty is Hannah’s first book, and it is a comprehensive “guide to saving the most vulnerable felines.” It includes charts and tables (including a “color wheel of poop” and much more!), and lots of kitten stories and photos. As for the title of the book, Hannah noted that “Mighty change happens through tiny acts of kindness.” An inspiring speaker, Hannah believes that we—the people working to help kittens in any and every way—are a movement. When asked about her hopes for the book, Hannah responded that she hopes people finish the book and do something for cats and that this will increase the momentum and breadth of the movement to save more kittens.

Hannah was at times funny (“Dogs have the dog park; cats have the internet.”) and at times heartbreaking (discussing how she has used the grief of losing to kittens to propel her into learning everything she can about whatever happened so it never happens again)—but she was always compelling. She hopes that her book will give kitten rescuers the tools they need so they never feel alone. It’s a beautiful book that is chock full of incredible information, great stories and, of course, adorable kitten photos. It’s definitely worth checking out—and stayed tuned for Hannah’s children’s book, Kitten Lady’s Big Book of Little Kittens, due out in a couple of months
